ENGLEFIELD BAY | WEEKLY FISHING REPORT

This week at Englefield Bay has been absolutely amazing. There are more big fish around this year and anglers are making the best of it!

Salmon Masters was a complete success and a good time was had by all. The top 3 chinook were all massive with Cory Saari taking 3rd at 38.25lbs and Chris Kostiuk 2nd 40.50lbs. Terry Johnson, a long-time competitor, landed a whopping 42.20 lb spring to take top honours!

The father & son team of Dennis and Chris Kostiuk took the total weight prize of 4 chinook weighing in at 115.9 lbs. What a great tournament it was, I can’t think of a better way to kick off the season!

As we move into mid-June the salmon fishing action continues to be very strong and big fish are coming to the dock daily.

Adam Goy and Mark Marlow brought in 37 and 35lb springs respectively yesterday and we hope to see this trend continue!

A note on coho this early in the season is that we are finding some and it’s a real bonus. Some lucky anglers fishing shallow with hoochie flashers are running into a school here and there. What we find is that silver bright coho are moving through quickly so it’s very hard to target them, but things are looking good for the season ahead!

Halibut, as usual here at Englefield, are willing biters coming from all over the grounds and everyone is able to take home the prized white meat.

Lingcod are plentiful at the moment and I am so happy to say that most of the larger breeding female fish are being returned to the depths to continue their life cycle. Most male lingcod will be about 25lbs at maturity and rarely average over 30lbs. It’s the females that grow large, and we have had some solid releases up to 70 lbs.

Helping to sustain these fish is something that I am very proud of and want to thank and congratulate everyone involved in making this happen!

Weather is great today with calm seas and light winds. The buzz on the dock this morning is that we will be able to travel and explore this amazing area freely over the next few days.

Looking forward to it! As always, we welcome our new to the area guests and for those of you that have been coming for years, we can’t wait to see you again.
